Cologne Old Market
This is a pretty cobbled square that is home to both the Rathaus (Town Hall) and Mikwe (Jewish Baths). It is surrounded by beautiful architecture and a few bars. It is well worth a visit. The Mikwe is the Jewish bath, dating back to the 12th Century, are located near the Rathaus.
You can see them through a small glass pyramid, but if you are lucky you may be able to climb down the steep steps and go inside. There is a small gate at the side through which you will gain access. You can ask for a key from the Rathaus.
Cologne Fish Market - Koln Fischmarkt
The Fish Market - Not much fish is sold here nowadays. The main catch are tourists. All of these buildings were rebuilt after World War 2 to their 17th century appearance. Today, they house cafes, pubs and restaurants. The old 13-15th century looking houses of the Fischmarkt are amongst the most colouful and popular of Cologne. They are in a pleasant little square fronting the Rhine in the old town.
The City of Cologne Museum - Kolnisches Stadtmuseum
Most city museums are of poor quality. The Cologne City museum is an exception. It has some great displays like huge exotic table displays of old gallons made by jewelers. There are lots of military exhibits ranging from knights in full armour to spiked hats worn by the soldiers of the German Empire. Look out for the gold car on the roof with wings. Yes you read that correctly. It is an unusual and well presented museum. It is closed on Monday. You will find it at Zeughausstrasse 1-3. It is the large building with the red and white diamond shutters.
