Eastbourne Sovereign Marina
If you like looking at expensive sailing boats then Eastbourne Marina is for you. I love walking around harbours. There are a number of pubs, bars and restaurants with outside sitting areas. The Eastbourne Sovereign Yachting Harbour was built in 1993.
Within the marina there are five separate harbours; a large outer tidal harbour and four smaller inner basins that are accessible through two huge high capacity modern locks. It is fascinating to see the great gates in action. There are well equipped repair boatyards with heavy lifting purpose-built cradles and high-pressure hull cleaning, mast removal systems.
The South Downs National Park and Beachy Head
To the west of the beach promenade the South Downs National Park starts. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty and one of my favourite places in Southern England. It comprise of Hundreds of square miles of beautiful woodland, rolling chalk grass uplands, fields of grazing sheep and river valleys from Eastbourne to Winchester
The area of white sea cliffs nearest to Eastbourne is called Beachy Head. There are cliff top walks where you can see the red and white light house that has stood for over 100 years warning ships to stay away from the rocks at the bottom of the cliffs. The Beachy Head pub serves great tradition English food and beer.
The restaurant's windows face the west and are fantastic for watching the sun set out over the English Channel. If you cannot face the long climb up to the top of the chalk cliffs take the bus from the town centre. Look for the bus numbers 12, 12a and 13. The 12a bus stop is near the Eastbourne Pier.
