Nuremberg Christmas Market
In the far corner of the Hauptmarkt, where the main Christmas market takes place, there is an eye-catching towering set of statues and fountain called the Schoner Brunnen. (Beautiful Fountain). It was constructed in the 14th century. It is 19 metres (62 ft) tall.
It is comprised of 40 figures in the shape of a pyramid, with Moses at the top surrounded by the prophets, and at the base, the electors and forefathers. The ironwork is beautiful and the combination of colours is striking. It is very attractively light up at night. You will see couples lining up to turn the ring in the fence around the Schoner Brunnen.
Legend has it, a nobleman's daughter once fell in love with a blacksmith, just a poor commoner. The blacksmith asked for his love's hand in marriage, but the nobleman merely scoffed at him. He told the blacksmith to prove himself as a true master of his craft, and then he would consider letting the blacksmith marry his daughter.

Not much later, a seamless brass ring was found in the middle of this monument in the Market Square. Being seamless was the mark of a true master craftsman. Just when the nobleman was having a change of heart towards the thought of his daughter and the blacksmith marrying, the blacksmith disappeared, never to be heard from again. They say that if you turn the seamless ring 3 times with your love, you'll have a love that endures the test of time.
