Bergen's Floyen Mountain Floibanen Funicular Railway
Take a trip to the top of one of Bergen's mountains. If there is good visibility and the cloud is not covering the top of the mountains then you must visit the top of the then Floyen mountain by the Bergen Floibanen Funicular railway system. It is not an old Victorian system that you find in the Alps or in Britain. This is state of the art, modern and comfortable.
It feels strange to get into a railway carriage that has stopped on a platform that goes up hill rather than the normal flat platform. If you have children try and get in the front or back seats so they can get the best views.
The Floibanen Funicular railway station in Bergen is very near the harbour fish market. You will find about 150 yards north west from the harbour at the junction of Vetrlidsallmenningen and overgaten street. It is housed in a solid looking white building with small windows at the top and a large arch in the place where a front door would normally be. The Floyen mountain is only 313 metres (1,027ft) tall so it only takes ten minutes to get to the top.
