Jackson, Wyoming (Jackson Hole)
I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to the Rockie Mountain town of Jackson in Wyoming. It is the nearest you can get to an old style cowboy town that is not a recreated tourist exhibit. It has a boardwalk, saloons general stores, wooden faced buildings and horse drawn stage coach that rides through the streets.
The town of Jackson is often mistakenly called Jackson Hole. It is the valley near the western border with Idaho that is called Jackson Hole. Inside the valley is the town of Jackson. The word 'hole' is said to come from the term given to the area by the early mountain men hunter and trappers
They followed the rivers to explore the interior. They gave it the name hole because of sensation of going through a gap in the steep sided mountains forced through by the river. David (Davey) Edward Jackson and his partner, Michelangelo Franconi, were mountain men who hunted and trapped the area for beaver in the early 1800's. The town and valley was named after him.
