Los Angeles - West Coast USA Travel Guide

Los Angeles
Los Angeles is a dump! San Diego (2 hr drive south from LA) and Palm Springs (1 ˝ hour drive to the west) are much better places to visit. When you first see LA look at the brown layer of pollution that hovers over the city. Sunset Boulevard and Hollywood strip look like Tooting Broadway when the shops are shut. There are Sleazy shops, bars and lots of low life. Drive through it and past the Chinese Cinema if you have to but get out. Makes sure you have a good map of LA. There are areas of the suburbs you do not want to get lost in because of the gang violence. Tourists are fresh meat.

I would stay in one of the family hotels / motels in near Disneyland south of the city in a place called Anaheim. The are is safe. You said you did not want to go to Disneyland but consider going to Disney’s New theme park opposite Disneyland's main gates. It is called California Adventure. We loved it. The different areas of the park cover different elements of the State. In the middle they have built the Rockies and have wet and wild rides. They have an area that covers the history of flight in the Californian deserts (great flying rides) There is a Hollywood area and a old Monterey Cannery historic area with tradition fun fair rides. It is very different to Disneyland, more adult and very enjoyable. If you want to visit the LA beaches Manhattan and Venice beach are the best.

Danger - You might not be allowed into America!
