Bavaria is famous for its beers and breweries. In the centre of Bamberg near the Old Town Hall Bridge there is an attractive pub that has its own Brewery. It is called Ambrausianum Breauerei and you can find it at Dominikanerstr 10.

They have kept the large copper kettles in which they make the beer in the centre of the pub and placed the seating around it. It is also one of the pubs where you can order and taste the local special beer called Rauchbier. It is a smokey beer. It smells and tastes like smoked sausage. How they can get this aroma and taste into a liquid is beyond me. If you like brown beers you will love this unusual beer.

You can buy it in the bottle to take home. The German word for normal clear bright light coloured larger beer is 'Hell'. The German word for brown beer is 'Dunkel' or dark beer. If you want half a pint of beer (0.25lt or 0.33lt) ask for a Klein bier (little beer). If you want a pint of beer (0.50lt) ask for a Gross bier (large beer)
