Strasbourg Christmas Market at Night
The picture below is of the Christmas market outside the Strasbourg Cathedral. There are other Xmas market stalls set up all around the old city centre in other squares and narow lanes.
The Place du Marche aux Cochons de Lait, or Suckling pig market place to you and me is no longer a market, it is now a pretty square, which, along with Rue de Marouquin, is packed with cafes, bars and restaurants. This was one of my favourite parts of the whole city. The very ornate Palais de Rohan near the cathedral was the bishop's residence. The Rohans were a very wealthy family who also had a Palais at Saverne. It currently houses the archeological museum, and music concerts both in the courtyard and inside. It has stalls in December.
Try some of the Christmas food and drink on sake. The Germans do like to cover fruit in chocolate. It is not just apples on a sick dipped in chocolate that tempts the visitor. Bananas, Strawberry's, grapes were put on a stick and dipped in hot chocolate then dipped again in nuts.
